Dylan Knight Highlights Bruin Men On Day One Of Pac-10 Track & Field Championships

Dylan Knight highlighted the men's track and field team on day one of the Pac-10 Championships in Berkeley as he ran one fo the top 10 steeplechase times in the NCAA this season.

Knight came into the meet with a top mark of 8:48.84 and lowered that time to 8:43.68 to finish second overall. That time moves him from No. 9 all-time at UCLA to No. 5. Knight's twin brother Spencer also had a big day as he ran a personal-best 8:57.95 for sixth-place overall (old best 8:59.84). David McDonald also got in on the lifetime performances as he ran his best time in the event, placing just outside of scoring position in ninth-place with a run of 9:10.80 (old best, 9:12.44).

The Bruins also picked up points in the other final running event of the day, the 10,000m. Marco Anzures finished sixth (29:31.01), while Kent Morikawa was eighth (29:39.99) in his first career 10k race.

UCLA picked up several points in the field events. Casey DiCesare placed fifth in the pole vault with a mark of 17-0, while Greg Woepse finished eighth (16-8/season-best). In the long jump, Nelson Rosario finished sixth overall with a mark of 24-2.50. Bo Taylor (54-8.75) and Nigel Davies (54-5.75) finished fourth and fifth, respectively, in the shot put.

On the track, the majority of running events were prelims and several Bruins advanced to Sunday's finals. Brandon Smith ran a lifetime-best of 10.52 (old best10.65) in the 100m to advance to the finals (7th overall). Maxwell Dyce (21.43) and Karlton Rolle (21.61) both advanced to the 200m final as Dyce was fourth overall and Rolle seventh. David Klarer advanced in the 400m hurdles, running 53.12, for the seventh-fastest time of the day. The 4x100m relay team of Jamal Alston, Griffin, Dyce and Smith also advanced to the finals, running the fifth-fastest qualifier (40.68).

Cory Primm had the fastest 800m qualifier on the day, running 1:47.93. Scott Crawford also advanced to Sunday's finals of the 800m, running 1:49.17 for the fifth-fastest time of the day. Marlon Patterson advanced eighth overall in the 1500m (3:52.62).
