Tori Pena stamped her ticket to Nationals on Saturday at the MPSF Indoor Championshpis in Seattle as the senior cleared a lifetime-best and NCAA automatic mark of 13-11.25 in the pole vault.
She placed second overall in the competition and moved to No. 5 all-time in UCLA pole vault history. She came into the meet with a top mark of 13-9.25 and now holds one of the top five marks in the NCAA this year. Also in the pole vault, senior Katy Viuf qualified for NCAAs with a provisional and lifetime-best clearance of 13-7.25. This was Viuf's first indoor competition of the season. Junior Tori Anthony tied for seventh with a mark of 12-7.50.
Also on Saturday, junior Shannon Murakami finished sixth in the 3000m with a provisional time of 9:31.10.
In the 400m, juniors Ashlea McLaughlin (54.04) and Joy Eaton (54.35) finished third and fourth, respectively. Both marks were provisional qualifiers but McLaughlin and Eaton have better marks from earlier in the season.
Oregon won the team title with 133 points, while Stanford (113) and Arizona (109) were second and third. The Bruins finished sixth with 53.50 points.
Most of the team will begin the outdoor season next weekend in Fullerton at the Ben Brown Invite. Some athletes may compete at Last Chance Qualifiers in an attempt to make the NCAA Indoor Championships. Those meets will be in Seattle, WA or Ames, IA.
