Video Recap | NCAA Women's Bracket

LOS ANGELES - The sixth-seeded UCLA women's tennis team earned a trip to next week's NCAA Round of 16 in Stanford, Calif. on Sunday, dispatching of San Diego, 4-0 in a second-round encounter at the Los Angeles Tennis Center. The Bruins (20-5) move on to face 11th-seeded Virginia on Friday at 9:00 a.m. The Cavaliers advanced following a 4-2 victory over N.C. State.

"I knew that San Diego was going to make us play and they are a very strong team," said UCLA head coach Stella Sampras Webster. "I told my team that we were going to have to take it from them and that they were not going to give it to us. So I expected a battle."

UCLA won the doubles point for the 19th time this season on Sunday, notching wins at court Nos. 2 and 3. After Maya Johansson and Pamela Montez secured an 8-3 win at the No. 3 position, UCLA's Noelle Hickey and McCall Jones clinched the point for the Bruins with 9-7 victory over USD's Laura Claus and Josymar Escalona.

UCLA got off to a strong start in singles, taking the first set on five of six courts. Hickey, who is UCLA's highest ranked singles player at No. 41 nationally, was the first to finish on Sunday, downing Escalona, 6-4, 6-1 at court No. 2.

Playing back at court No. 6, Johansson posted the team's third point of the day with a 6-3, 6-3 win over Maja Sujica. Johansson upped her record to 14-1 in dual matches this season.

Similar to doubles, Jones got the clinching win for UCLA in singles as well, registering a 6-1, 6-2 victory over former Bruin Stephanie Hoffpauir at court No. 1 to give UCLA an insurmountable 4-0 advantage.

When play was suspended, Andrea Remynse was up a set at court No. 3, and Courtney Dolehide up 6-3, 3-3 at court No. 5. Montez was down a set and trailing in the second at court No. 4.

Virginia and UCLA have never met in women's tennis.
