Los Angeles, CA -
Senior Glory Yang, junior Stephanie Kono, sophomores Lee Lopez and Tiffany Lua and freshman Ani Gulugian have all earned All-American honors as announced by GolfWeek magazine. Kono and Lua received second team accolades while Lopez was named to the third team. Yang and Gulugian each received honorable mention.
This is the third straight year that Kono has been named a consensus All-American after she was named a first team All-American by the NGCA. This year, Kono led the Bruins in scoring average (72.8), top-10 finishes (6), rounds under par (15) and rounds under 70 (5). She also tied for first at the NCAA Central Regional, earning her fourth career tournament victory.
As for Tiffany Lua, this is the second straight year that she has been named a consensus All-American. Earlier this year, Tiffany was named a second team All-American by the NGCA. Lua was the top finisher at the NCAA Championship for the Bruins after she tied for 4th place. She also earned her first career tournament victory at the Landfall Tradition back in October. Tiffany was first on the team with five top-5 finishes and was second on the team in scoring average with a 73.0.
Sophomore Lee Lopez recorded three top 10 finishes on the year including a win at the Bruin Wave Invitational back in March. This is her first appearance on the All-American team and the first time in her career that she has earned consensus All-American honors. Lopez previously was named second team All-America by the NGCA. As for Yang, she recorded six top 20 finishes in 11 tournaments and secured runner-up honors at the Bruin Wave Invitational behind Lopez. She previously received second-team All-America honors from GolfWeek in 2008 and third-team honors in 2009 to go with her honorable mention this year.
Freshman Ani Gulugian had seven top 20 finishes in her first season as a UCLA golfer and is making her first appearance on the All-American list. Ani also recorded eight rounds under par on the year and had her best finish at the Regional Challenge in February, where she tied for 3rd place.
Earlier this week, Head Coach Carrie Forsyth was named GolfWeek's National Coach of the Year to go along with the team's All-American selections. Yang, Kono, Lua, Lopez and Gulugian all started at the NCAA Championship back in May and helped bring home UCLA's third NCAA Championship in women's golf.
