STOCKTON, Calif. - Sophomore Ben Hohl scored a game-high three goals to lead the No. 4 UCLA men's water polo team past No. 5 Pepperdine, 8-3, late Saturday afternoon at Pacific's Chris Kjeldsen Pool. With the win, UCLA (3-0) advances to a Sunday semifinal match at the NorCal Tournament against California (6-0).
The Bruins, who received goals from six players, led 2-1 after the first quarter and assumed a 3-1 halftime advantage. UCLA outscored the Waves by a 5-2 margin in the second half.
Pepperdine's J.P. MacDonell, Andrew Milcovich and Grant Miller each scored one goal.
UCLA junior goalkeeper Chay Lapin recorded 11 saves in the cage. Pepperdine's John Hahn made four stops.
The Bruins will face California in the semifinals of the NorCal Tournament for the second consecutive season. Last fall, the Golden Bears edged UCLA, 10-8, in the semifinal match. Game time on Sunday is slated for 10:40 a.m. at St. Mary's High School in Stockton, Calif (site has been changed from the original schedule).
Earlier in the day, the Bruins downed No. 14 Pacific, 11-6, in both teams' opening match of the tournament.
