The swimming and diving team opened up the 2011-2012 season with a victory as they defeated the UCSB Gauchos for the 28th time, winning 168-130 on Saturday in Santa Barbara.
The Bruins tallied seven event wins during the meet, including a double win by sophomore Cynthia Fascella, who won the 50 free (23.60) and 100 free (50.79) and by diver Paulina Guzman, who won the 1M (288.53) and 3M (290.18) diving competitions.
Sophomore Ting Quah notched a win in the 200 free as she swam 1:50.33. Quah was also second in the 100 free (51.83). Junior Laurence Delisle was second in both the 200 free (1:51.38) and 200 back (2;04.93). Junior Emily Andelson led a 1-2 finish in the 100 back as she was first in 57.06 and Senko was second in 57.57. Senko also finished second in the 500 free (5:04.02).
The divers swept both 1M and 3M against the Gauchos behind Guzman's double win. Freshman Emma Ivory-Ganja was second on both boards with scores of 258.60 on 1M and 290.18 on 3M. Both her and Guzman's scores are qualifying marks for the NCAA Zone diving meet. Sophomore Haley McNamara was third on 3M with a score of 225.90.
The divers will next head to the Trojan Invite at USC November 4-5, while the swimmers will be off from competition until they head to the desert for meets against Arizona and ASU (Nov. 11 & Nov. 12).
