Walnut Creek, Calif. - Sophomore defender Joe Sofia has been named the Bank of the West Pac-12 Player of the Week for the week of October 25-31, Commissioner Larry Scott announced today.
The Dove Canyon, Calif., native played a key role in the Bruins' 1-0 victories over Washington and Oregon State. On Friday against the Huskies, Joe scored the game-winning goal in the 70th minute while also contributing to UCLA's stout defense that allowed no shots on goal. On Sunday, Sofia and the Bruins held Oregon State to just three shots on goal in the shutout win. UCLA has shut out seven of its last 10 Pac-12 opponents, with Sofia starting and playing in every minute of those games.
This is Joe's first weekly honor and UCLA's 44th all-time Player of the Week.
The Bruins will travel up to the Bay Area this weekend to take on California on Friday, Nov. 4 at 3:30 pm and Stanford on Sunday, Nov. 6 at 1 pm.
Also nominated: Jacob Hustedt, WASH
