The No. 2 UCLA men's water polo team defeated Johns Hopkins, 21-4, on Saturday evening at DeNunzio Pool in the Bruins' third and final game of the day at the Princeton Invitational. UCLA (6-0) received a game-high three goals from a quartet of Bruins. Freshmen Danny McClintick and Joey Fuentes, sophomore Daniel Lenhart and senior Josh Samuels each scored three goals against the Blue Jays.
The Bruins started the game, scoring the first 10 goals. before Kielan Crow scored for Johns Hopkins (5-1). UCLA ended the first period with a 10-1 lead. McClintick scored all three of his goals in the opening stanza and the first three of the match while Samuels scored two of his three in the first.
The Blue Jays won the third period 3-2. Fuentes and White each scored their second goal of the game to give the Bruins a 15-4 lead at the end of the third quarter.
Redshirt freshman Brandon D'Sa scored his first two goals of the season in the fourth quarter against the Blue Jays. Lenhart scored all three of his goals in the fourth and Fuentes added his third goal of the match to end the scoring at 21-4.
In the match, the Bruins converted on 2-of-5 power play opportunities. Johns Hopkins missed their only penalty shot and was 2-for-7 on its extra man opportunities and won the third period sprint, but lost the other three. Senior Matt Rapacz started in goal for the Bruins and played the first half while sophomore Stephen White played the second half for UCLA. Both UCLA goalkeepers recorded two saves in the cage. UCLA again received goals from 11 different Bruins.
