Golfers Trail by Three Shots Entering Final Round

The top-ranked UCLA women's golf team was in second place following the second round of the NCAA West Regional Championship, hosted at the Stanford Golf Course in Palo Alto, Calif.

The Bruins posted a team score of 296 (+12) -- the second best round of the day -- and had a 36-hole total of 588 (+20). They trailed first-place Arizona (585, +17) by three strokes. The Wildcats carded the day's best score, 294 (+10). Alabama was third at 595 (+27), followed by Virginia at 596 (+28). There was a three-way tie for fifth place at 597 (+29) between LSU, Texas and Cal. Iowa State was eighth at 599 (+31). The top eight teams after Saturday's final round will advance to the NCAA Championship in two weeks.

Individually for the Bruins, sophomore All-American Stephanie Kono was tied for seventh place at 145 (+3) following a round of 73 (+2) on Friday. Junior Glory Yang had UCLA's best score -- a one-over par 72 -- and was tied for 13th at 147 (+5). Freshman Tiffany Lua moved up 18 spots on the leader board with a score of 73 (+2). She was tied for 17th at 148 (+6). Senior Sydnee Michaels endured a rough day, carding a 78 (+7) after going six-over par on her first nine holes. She was tied for 39th at 151 (+9). Sophomore Brianna Do was tied for 48th at 152 (+10) following a round of 80 (+9).

San Jose State's Madeleine Ziegart held the 36-hole lead at 141 (-1) after posting a 74 (+3) on Saturday. Ziegert held a one-stroke lead over LSU's Morgan McChrystal.
