GREENVILLE, N.C. - The UCLA baseball team lost the final game of a three-game series at East Carolina, 7-5, Saturday afternoon at Clark-LeClair Stadium. Second baseman Eddie Murray led the Bruins in the series finale, going 3-for-3 with one home run, two singles, one walk and one hit-by-pitch.

UCLA (5-12) edged East Carolina, 8-6, on Saturday morning in the resumed portion of Friday's suspended contest. In game one of Friday afternoon's doubleheader, UCLA defeated the Pirates, 10-9.

In the series finale, East Carolina's Kevin Brandt (3-0) logged the victory in relief, limiting UCLA to one run off one hit in 4.2 innings. UCLA right-hander Charles Brewer (0-2) was tagged with the loss, surrendering six runs (one earned) and five hits in four innings. Brewer totaled five strikeouts and one walk.

Bruin designated hitter Cody Decker belted his fourth home run in UCLA's last four games, going 1-for-4 with three RBI. Decker finished a five-game week going 6-for-18 (.333) with four homers and 10 RBI.

East Carolina (11-4) was led in the series finale by third baseman Drew Schieber, who went 2-for-4 with four RBI and two runs. Pirate first baseman Brandon Henderson was 3-for-3 with two RBI and one run.

In the bottom of the first, East Carolina took advantage of UCLA's two errors to score four runs, all unearned. Left fielder Stephen Batts singled home second baseman Ryan Wood, before Henderson belted a three-run homer to left-center field, handing the Pirates an early 4-0 cushion.

UCLA scored one run in the second and added another in the fourth. An RBI-groundout by shortstop Niko Gallego plated first baseman Alex Weber-Shapiro in the second. Two innings later, Murray swatted his second home run of the season, a solo shot to left field, cutting East Carolina's lead to 4-2.

The Pirates expanded their margin to 7-2 in the bottom of the fifth. Schieber connected for a three-run home run to left field, bringing home Wood and Batts.

A three-run homer to left field by Decker in the top of the eighth reduced UCLA's deficit to 7-5.

UCLA returns to action at USC on Saturday, March 21. Game time at Dedeaux Field is 2 p.m. UCLA's three games at USC next weekend will be broadcast (audio) online at uclabruins.com. Sunday's game will begin at 2 p.m. and Monday's first pitch is scheduled for 6 p.m.
