WOODLAND, Calif. - Junior attacker Griffin White has captured KAP7 MPSF Player of the Week acclaim for the week of Sept. 19-25, the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation (MPSF) announced Monday. White scored three goals in each of UCLA's two non-conference wins over the weekend.
White becomes the first UCLA player to secure MPSF Player of the Week honors since Nov. 2, 2009, when Chay Lapin was named the weekly recipient after a 21-save effort at Long Beach State the previous day.
A native of Mission Viejo, Calif., White led UCLA with three goals in an 11-7 win at home against Pepperdine on Friday night. White scored two of UCLA's first three goals, helping the Bruins claim a 3-1 advantage, a lead that was not relinquished.
The following afternoon, White scored three goals in an 11-7 victory at Loyola Marymount.
In addition, White drew three earned exclusions and one five-meter penalty shot, one steal and one assist in UCLA's pair of wins last weekend.
This marks the first time in which White has earned MPSF Player of the Week acclaim.
No. 2 UCLA (7-1) returns to action at the SoCal Tournament this weekend (Oct. 1-2). The Bruins will play No. 20 Air Force (3-6) on Saturday morning at 8:30 at the Joint Forces Training Base (JFTB) in Los Alamitos, Calif. UCLA will play either No. 7 UC Santa Barbara or No. 10 UC San Diego later that day.
