WOODLAND, Calif. - Senior Priscilla Orozco has earned MPSF Player of the Week honors for the third consecutive week after having scored 12 goals in four matches at the UCI Invitational last weekend. Freshman goalkeeper Sami Hill has secured MPSF Newcomer of the Week honors for the second time in three weeks.
Orozco becomes the first player on record to earn MPSF Player of the Week honors for three consecutive weeks.
Orozco tallied 13 goals in UCLA's five matches last week, including 12 goals at the UCI Invitational. She registered a team-leading five goals in UCLA's 9-8 loss to USC in a semifinal match before scoring a team-high four goals in the Bruins' 7-6 victory over Hawai'i in the tournament's third-place match.
A resident of Commerce, Calif., Orozco currently leads all MPSF players with 43 goals and with a 2.26 goals per game scoring average. She has twice scored five goals in a game - against USC last Sunday and versus UC Irvine on Feb. 19 this season.
Hill totaled 37 saves in four games (14 quarters) at the UCI Invitational over the weekend, limiting the opposition to 5.5 goal per game played. She tied her career high with 12 saves in a semifinal loss to USC before registering eight saves in a 7-6 win over Hawai'i for third place.
Hill, who hails from Santa Barbara, Calif., ranks fifth in the MPSF with a 5.94 goals against average and leads UCLA with 85 saves in 10 matches.
Orozco earned MPSF Player of the Week honors on Feb. 14 and on Feb. 21 this season, while Hill secured Newcomer of the Week acclaim on Feb. 14.
UCLA returns to action at Arizona State on Saturday, March 5. The Bruins are slated to face the Sun Devils at 11 a.m. (PT)/12 p.m. (MT). UCLA will take on Cal Baptist at 12:30 p.m. (PT)/1:30 p.m. (MT) at ASU's Mona Plummer Aquatic Center that afternoon.
