UCLA head coach Rick Neuheisel put his Bruin team through the annual scrimmage at Drake Stadium on Saturday afternoon before a crowd of 5,500.
Sophomore quarterback Richard Brehaut threw for 186 yards and three touchdown passes during the action, each going to a different receiver. Nelson Rosario and Taylor Embree, the returning starters at wide receiver, each hauled in a scoring pass. Rosario led the Bruin receivers with four catches on the day for 80 yards, including a two-yard scoring reception. Embree caught one pass, but it was good for an 18-yard touchdown. Sophomore Randall Carroll added a 36-yard scoring reception from Brehaut.
True freshman Anthony Barr added the day's fourth touchdown reception on an 11-yard toss from sophomore quarterback Darius Bell. Barr finished with three catches for 27 yards. Senior Christian Ramirez also had three catches for a total of 53 yards.
True freshman running back Malcolm Jones topped all rushers with 59 yards on 11 carries. He had one run of 18 yards and another of 17. Sophomore Jonathan Franklin totaled 16 yards on seven carries. Barr added a 12-yard run.
Senior placekicker Kai Forbath connected on field goals of 37 and 42 yards after missing from 37 yards early in the scrimmage.
Following the scrimmage, fans were allowed on the field to get autographs and photographs of their favorite Bruin players and coaches.
UCLA will open the 2010 season on Sept. 4 at Kansas State. The game will be televised by ABC at 12:30 PT. The Bruins return home the following Saturday to host Pac-10 rival Stanford in a 7:30 contest at the Rose Bowl.
