IRVINE, Calif. - Senior Krsto Sbutega scored a career-high five goals to lead the No. 4 UCLA men's water polo team past No. 7 UC Irvine, 10-4, in the season opener for both teams Saturday evening at Anteater Pool.

Sbutega scored three goals in the first two quarters to help UCLA assume a 5-1 halftime lead in the non-conference match. Junior Scott Davidson added a pair of goals for UCLA, and junior goalkeeper Chay Lapin collected 11 saves.

UC Irvine took the game's first lead, taking advantage of a 6-on-5 opportunity, when sophomore Brandon Johnson found the back of the cage one minute into the contest. UCLA responded with six unanswered goals to take control of the game.
