LOS ANGELES - UCLA (15-6) finished off the Stacy Winsberg Memorial Tournament with a victory on Sunday afternoon over Loyola-Chicago, winning 9-1 in five innings of play. Krista Colburn posted the team's firs triple of the season, going 2-for-2 with a run scored and three RBI, and Jaisa Creps went 2-for-2 with a three-run home run and two runs scored on the day. Tara Henry was also perfect at the plate on the afternoon, going 2-for-2 with two runs scored and an RBI.
The Bruins opened the scoring in the bottom of the second inning. The rally opened with a one-out single by Creps, who advanced to second on w Whitney Holum walk. Julie Burney then hit into a fielders choice with Holum out at second, giving UCLA runners on the corners with two outs. Henry followed with a single, scoring Creps, and Colburn then connected on a triple to right to give UCLA the 3-0 lead after two innings of play.
The top of the third saw the Ramblers lead off with a single and bring the run around to score on an RBI single from Tara Miller, making the score 3-1 in UCLA's favor.
In the third, UCLA sent 10 batters to the plate, scoring six runs on as many hits. Lisa Dodd opened the inning with a single to left, followed by a walk to Jodie Legaspi and a double from Megan Langenfeld that scored Dodd. Creps then blasted a three-run home run, her third of the season, to bring the score to 7-1. A two-out single by Tara Henry kept the Bruins batting, and after stealing second base, Henry would score on a slinge by Krista Colburn. Colburn was plated on a Kaila Shull double, making the score 9-1.
That was plenty of offense for freshman pitcher Whitney Baker, who experienced her first career start on Sunday afternoon. Baker scattered eight hits, striking out eight for her first career victory.
UCLA returns to action on Wednesday, March 7, with a 6 pm game at Cal State Fullerton.
