The Bruins hit the field running on day 1 of pre-season camp before a nice crowd on the athletic fields at CSUSB. The team practiced in helmets only, per the NCAA rules, as the temperature touched the 90 degree mark. The freshman group got its first taste of the practice tempo desired by the coaching staff. Veteran players like Y receiver Joseph Fauria and linebacker Anthony Barr, who missed most of spring ball, were back in action.
After team meetings this evening, the squad will prepare for day two of camp on Sunday with breakfast set to begin at 6:30 a.m., followed by meetings and morning lifts. The team will hit the practice field again at 2:45 p.m.
UCLA opens the 2012 football season on the road with a game against Rice on August 30 (6:30 p.m. CT/4:30 p.m. PT). The Bruins then return home to the Rose Bowl for three straight games - Nebraska (Sept. 8, 4:30 p.m.), Houston (Sept. 15, 7:30 p.m.) and Oregon State (Sept. 22, time TBA). For ticket information call 310-UCLA-WIN.
Fans heading to Cal State San Bernardino (5500 University Parkway, San Bernardino, CA 92407) should plan on bringing their own chairs, as there are no bleachers around the practice fields. Parking ($5 daily charge) can be secured at the parking kiosk off the Coyote Drive entrance to the university. Plenty of parking is available in lots (Lot G is closest to field) within a short walk of the practice site located on the east side of the campus.
