ANN ARBOR, Mich. - The No. 4 UCLA women's water polo team won its final two matches at the Michigan Invitational on Sunday, improving to 4-0 on the season. The Bruins edged No. 8 Michigan, 6-5, before taking down No. 15 Cal State Northridge, 11-5.
The Bruins' win against Michigan was televised live on Big Ten Network on Sunday morning.
UCLA received one goal from each of six players in the 6-5 triumph over Michigan. Tied 2-2 after one period, UCLA outscored the host Wolverines, 3-0, in the second quarter to lead 5-2 at halftime.
Michigan reduced the Bruins' advantage to 5-4 after three quarters. Each team traded one goal in the fourth quarter, allowing UCLA to record a 6-5 victory.
Junior goalkeeper Caitlin Dement logged three saves in the cage for UCLA against Michigan.
In UCLA's win over Cal State Northridge, the Bruins got off to a quick start. UCLA scored seven first-quarter goals to lead 7-1 after the opening period. At halftime, the Bruins led by an 8-2 margin. Both teams scored three goals in the second half as UCLA's lead was never in doubt.
Junior KK Clark led the Bruins with three goals on the day - two against Cal State Northridge and one versus Michigan. Clark also scored a team-leading nine goals through four Michigan Invitational games.
Freshman goalkeeper Sami Hill registered 12 saves in the cage for UCLA.
The Bruins return to action with their home opener against Long Beach State on Saturday, Jan. 29. Game time at UCLA's Spieker Aquatics Center is 1 p.m.
