The No. 16 UCLA swim team stands in a tie for fifth-place (96 points) after day one of the swimming portion of the Pac-10 Championships in Long Beach, CA. Only two events were contested on Wednesday evening - the 200 Medley Relay and 800 Freestyle Relay.
Cal stands in first-place (120 points), followed by Stanford with 118 points and USC and Oregon State tied for third with 100 points.
"We had an OK night tonight," said head coach Cyndi Gallagher. The 200 Medley Relay was good - good splits for everyone. The 800 Free was a little nerve racking because we were a little intimidated at the beginning, but we did ok. Jeana Fuccillo also swam a time trial in the 100 Breast and swam her lifetime best time, so that was exciting!"
Both relay times were NCAA "B" qualifiers.
Although the divers put the Bruins in first-place after the dive portion of the conference meet, diving points are not factored into the point total until later in the meet. One meter results will be added during Thursday's competition, with three-meter factoring in on Friday and platform on Saturday.
Competition resumes tomorrow at 11:00 am with the prelims of the 500 Freestyle, 200 IM, 50 Free and 200 Freestyle Relay.
