Gatorade Player of the Year
CIF State Tournament

CHICAGO - Future Bruin Nirra Fields has been named the Gatorade California Girls Basketball Player of the Year, as announced by The Gatorade Company on Thursday in collaboration with ESPNHS.

Fields is the fifth Bruin to be named the Gatorade California POY, joining Jasmine Dixon (2008), Noelle Quinn (2003), Michelle Greco (1998) and Maylana Martin (1996).

Fields, who will now be a finalist for the Gatorade National Player of the Year award to be announced in March, has led Mater Dei High School to a 30-3 record this season and the CIF-Southern Section Division 1AA Championship. The Monarchs won their first-round game in the CIF State Division I Tournament on Wednesday against Burbank and will face Huntington Beach on March 10.

Fields is averaging 22.5 points, 7.2 rebounds, 4.5 steals and 2.4 assists through 33 games. A member of Canada's U19 Women's National Team, she is both a McDonald's All-American Game and a Women's Basketball Coaches Association All-America Game selectee.

Fields has maintained a B average in the classroom and has volunteered locally on behalf of the Down Syndrome Association of Orange County.
