With Pac-10's now successfully behind us, the feeling is certainly bittersweet. While some girls will continue to compete in the upcoming Regional meet in order to stamp their tickets to Nationals, many of the women will be hanging up their spikes until next year, and some, for good.
True to form, Pac-10's (the last Pac-10 Championship with next year's addition of two more school) presented two days of fierce competition and many great performances. Many of our athletes succeeded in achieving lifetime best. Joy Eaton in particular ran a daring race in the 400m to lower her time by over a full 0.5 seconds! Primarily run in the evening, the women's team really showed out after a rousing team meeting the night before. Although there were certainly some disappointments and surprises, overall, the meet was a huge success and has certainly garnered momentum for the women who will continue to compete.
Though the size of the team has gotten smaller, many supporters, both family members and even teammates not competing braved the drive over to Arizona to watch us compete. The Bruin spirit is one that isn't deterred by a few miles! Thank you to all those who came out to support the team. Going into the final stretch of the season, I can look back and truly say I am so very proud to be a member of the UCLA Womens' Track team. And it's not over yet! Wish us luck as we train hard going into Regionals and hopefully to Nationals to compete with the best runners, jumpers and throwers from all over America!
