WALNUT CREEK, Calif. - Stephany LaRosa was named Pac-12 Conference Freshman of the Year, while a total of eight Bruins were honored on the All-Pac-12 teams, as announced by the league on Wednesday.
LaRosa is the fifth Bruin to earn the conference's top freshman honor. When it was known as Newcomer of the Year, Tanya Harding (1995), Julie Adams (1996), Stacey Nuveman (1997) and Anjelica Selden (2005) were each named Pac-10 Newcomer of the Year.
LaRosa also earned All-Pac-12 First Team honors and was joined on the team by seniors Andrea Harrison and Katie Schroeder and junior B.B. Bates. The four First Team honors for UCLA tied for the most in the conference with Arizona State. Senior Samantha Camuso was named to the All-Pac-12 Second Team, while senior Dani Yudin and sophomore Jessica Hall earned All-Pac-12 Honorable Mention accolades. LaRosa and Ally Carda both received All-Pac-12 Freshman Team plaudits.
Harrison and Schroeder are the 24th and 25th Bruins to receive all-conference selections four times. Harrison is a three-time First Team honoree (2010-12), while Schroeder is a two-time First Team winner (`09, `12).
Bates earned her initial First Team award after receiving Honorable Mention accolades as a sophomore. Camuso picked up her second Second Team honor (2008), Yudin recorded her second Honorable Mention award (2010) and Hall posted her first All-Pac-12 accolade.
LaRosa leads the Bruins with a .445 batting average, 16 home runs, 60 runs batted in, an .815 slugging, 141 total bases, 77 hits, four sacrifice flies, 24 multiple-hit games and 16 multi-RBI contests, is tied for first with three triples, second with 47 runs scored, third with a .495 on base percentage, tied for third with four hit by pitches and fourth with 10 doubles. She hit .431 (31-for-72) during Pac-12 play with seven homers, 27 RBI and 18 runs.
Harrison is second on the team with 118 total bases, 12 doubles and three sacrifice flies, tied for second with 14 home runs, third with 44 runs scored and 64 hits and fourth with 46 runs batted in and a .667 slugging. She is hitting .362 with 20 walks, a .429 on base percentage, 18 multiple-hit contests and 10 multi-RBI games.
Schroeder leads the Bruins with 59 runs scored, 14 doubles, a .524 on base percentage, 16 stolen bases and 13 hit by pitches, and is second with a .412 batting average, 28 walks and 70 hits. She has five home runs, 30 runs batted in and 20 multiple-hit games, and has reached base in 49 of 54 contests.
Bates is tied for second on the team with 14 home runs and 48 runs batted in, third with 11 doubles, a .703 slugging, 116 total bases, 27 walks and seven stolen bases and fourth with a .370 batting average, 42 runs scored and 61 hits. She has 13 multiple-hit contests and 14 multi-RBI games.
Camuso is second on the team with a .767 slugging, tied for second with 48 runs batted in, third with a .376 batting average, fourth with 13 home runs, 21 walks, 102 total bases and a .462 on base percentage and tied for first with three triples. She has scored 27 runs, has seven doubles and has three separate hitting streaks of at least five games.
Hall leads the Bruins with 199 strikeouts in a team-high 200 2/3 innings with a 3.17 earned run average. She is 19-12 with four saves, tossing 14 complete games and having been a part of seven shutouts, including four solo blankings.
Yudin leads the Bruins with 43 walks and is second with a .503 on base percentage and five hit by pitches. She is batting .315 with seven home runs, 36 runs batted in, 22 runs scored, seven doubles, a .535 slugging, nine multiple-hit games and 11 multi-RBI contests.
Carda holds a 13-5 record and a 3.38 earned run average with 97 strikeouts in 120 innings. At the plate, she is hitting .290 with four home runs, 25 runs batted in, 16 runs scored, five doubles, 15 walks and four hit by pitches.
