Five UCLA Baseball Players Earn All-Regional Team Honors

June 3, 2008

FULLERTON, Calif. - Senior Alden Carrithers, juniors Brandon Crawford and Jermaine Curtis and sophomores Blair Dunlap and Casey Haerther were selected to the All-Regional Team, as announced at the Fullerton Regional following Monday's final game.

Curtis, playing in his third NCAA postseason in as many years, led UCLA with eight hits in three games, posting a .421 batting average (8-for-19) with two doubles, four RBI and one run. The Bruins' third baseman raised his career postseason batting average to .397 (19-for-48), earning All-Regional honors for the second consecutive season.

Dunlap, who gained All-Regional honors at Pepperdine in 2006, registered a team-leading .438 batting average (7-for-16) at the Fullerton Regional. Dunlap totaled one double, one home run, three RBI and two runs in three games. Dunlap's .438 batting average was tied with Cal State Fullerton's Joel Weeks' as the second-best mark in the Fullerton Regional, after Titan shortstop Christian Colon's regional-best .450 average.

Crawford, also competing in his third NCAA postseason in three seasons, logged a .375 average (6-for-16) with five runs, six RBI, two doubles, one triple and two home runs. In three trips to the postseason, Crawford has registered a .298 batting average (14-for-47) with four doubles and nine RBI.

Carrithers went 5-for-15 (.333) with five runs, two RBI and one double in three games. The second baseman from Portland, Ore., was tied with four other players (including Crawford) for most runs scored in the Fullerton Regional. Carrithers finished his two-year Bruin career with a .364 batting average, the sixth-highest mark in school history.

Haerther was one of just two players, along with Crawford, at the Fullerton Regional to belt two home runs. The first baseman from Chatsworth, Calif., went 5-for-17 (.294) with three runs, three RBI, one double and two homers. Haerther finished the 2008 season as UCLA's team leader in home runs (12), RBI (52), doubles (23) and slugging percentage (.580).

Cal State Fullerton's Brian Wilson earned All-Regional Most Valuable Player honors and joined teammate Cory Arbiso as the two pitchers selected to the All-Regional team.
