ITA Team Indoor Championships This Week
Both the UCLA men's and women's tennis teams will be in action this week, taking part in the ITA National Team Indoor Championships, Feb. 13-16. The men's event, hosted by the University of Illinois, takes place in at the Midtown Tennis Club in Chicago. The fourth-seeded Bruins (5-0) open up play against 13th-seeded Illinois (5-2) on Friday at 6:30 p.m. (CST). The winner of that match will play either No. 5 Virginia or No. 12 Tulsa in the quarterfinals on Saturday at 6:30 p.m. The women's event begins Friday at the Nielson Tennis Stadium in Madison, Wisc. (University of Wisconsin is the host). The third-seeded Bruins (4-0) are scheduled to face Florida (4-1) at 3:30 p.m. (CST) on Friday, with the winner of that match taking on either No. 6 Georgia or USC on Saturday at 3:30 p.m.

Because of the tournament format in Wisconsin (only three matches per dual match are played at one time) there will be no live stats available for the women's tournament. How They Qualified
UCLA hosted a qualifying event for the ITA Team Indoor Championships, Jan. 30-Feb. 1 at the Los Angeles Tennis Center. The Bruins men defeated South Alabama, 4-0 in the opening round before posting a 4-1 victory over Fresno State to earn a spot in this week's 16-team event. The UCLA women recorded wins over Minnesota (4-0) and LSU (4-1) in its two qualifying matches.
History at the Indoors
The Bruin men trail only Stanford (12) for most Team Indoor titles with seven. UCLA's most recent championship came in 2001, when Bruins defeated the Cardinal, 4-2 in Seattle. The Bruins' other winning years were: 1984, 1991, 1993, 1996, 1997 and 1999. The UCLA women have never won an ITA Team Indoor title, however have finished second on two occasions (1990 & 1995).
UCLA in the Rankings
New team rankings were released on Tuesday, however both UCLA teams remained at their respective spots in the polls. The men have been ranked No. 4 since the start of the season, while the women continue to check in at No. 3. Individual rankings were last released on Jan. 6. The Bruin women have four singles players currently ranked, led by No. 31 Andrea Remynse. She is followed by No. 63 Maya Johansson, No. 90 Nina Pantic and No. 106 Yasmin Schnack. In doubles, Ashley Joelson and Schnack are ranked 11th, while the tandem of Johansson and Stephanie Wetmore are at No. 39. The two UCLA men's players currently ranked are No. 67 Matt Brooklyn and No. 78 Nick Meister. The men have no doubles teams ranked.
After the Indoors
After the completion of the ITA Team Indoor Championships, the UCLA men will travel to Waco, Texas for a Feb. 22 showdown against Baylor. The next home match for the Bruins will be the weekend of Feb. 27 (Cal) and Feb. 28 (Stanford). The UCLA women will host two matches next week, facing off against LMU on Thursday and Hawai'i on Friday. Both matches begin at 1:30 p.m.
