Rome, Italy - Ciao! Ciao! We woke up early Thursday morning and got on the bus to get to the airport. By 9:30 am we were in the air and headed to Chicago O'Hare! We had an easy flight there. When we landed we had an hour and a half to gather ourselves and grab some food before the main leg: the eight and a half hour flight to Rome! Everyone got a little bit of sleep, but the excitement was high as we cruised into Rome with everything going well.
Our helpful tour guide, Rob, who quickly began explaining the history of Rome by the story of Romulus and Remus and the Palantine and Aventine Hills, greeted us. We made it to our beautiful hotel in the heart of downtown Rome and headed out to take in the Trevi Fountain. Through the busy crowds, we made our way to the fountain. We made wishes and threw our coins over our left shoulders to ensure a future visit to Rome and then headed over to take a drink from the water source that fills the fountains. The water source runs through the famous Roman Aqueducts.
We then walked to the Pantheon and had lunch at a café in the square. It was everyone's first taste of Italian food and European culture. After a much-needed lunch break from a long day of traveling, we then went inside the Pantheon to see where the Roman Gods were. As the day continued to get warmer and warmer, we headed back to the hotel to get a cool shower and nap before heading out to dinner.
It was an exciting day overall, and we have already seen so many historic sites in less than 24 hours. We are looking forward to the Vatican tomorrow and our game!
