UCLA Picked to Finish Second in Pac-12 Coaches' Poll

Aug. 11, 2011

Walnut Creek, Calif. - Following a vote of league coaches, the UCLA women's soccer team was picked to finish second behind Stanford in this year's Pac-12 title race, as the conference released its 2011 Pac-12 Preseason Coaches' Poll on Thursday.

UCLA is coming off a fourth-place finish in last year's league standings, ending the conference season with a 5-4 record. The Bruins, however, should be much improved from a year ago, as the team returns a number of veteran players, including player-of-the-year candidate Sydney Leroux. UCLA also signed 12 newcomers for this season, most of which have been involved with the U.S. National Team Program.

UCLA recently checked in at No. 16 in the Preseason NSCAA Rankings, while the Bruins were picked No. 1 overall in Top Drawer Soccer's Tournament 64.

The Bruins have an exhibition match against CSU Bakersfield this Saturday at 7:00 p.m. in Bakersfield, Calif. The team's season opener will be on Aug. 19 at Cal State Northridge.
