Bruins Head to the Bay Area
The No. 7 UCLA women's tennis team (16-2; 3-0 Pac-10) makes one of its most important road trips of the season this week, taking on No. 11 Cal and No. 12 Stanford in a pair of crucial conference matchups in the Bay Area. Play begins on Friday with the Bruins facing the Golden Bears (13-4; 1-1 Pac-10) at 1:30 p.m. in Berkeley. UCLA and Cal have already faced off twice this season, with the Golden Bears taking a 4-3 victory at the ITA National Team Indoors on Feb. 13, and the Bruins taking a 4-3 win of their own at the Los Angeles Tennis Center on Feb. 28. Following its match with Cal, UCLA then heads to Stanford on Saturday, taking on the Cardinal (13-1; 2-0 Pac-10) at Noon. UCLA Looks to End Stanford's Home Winning Streak
Barring a USC upset over Stanford on Friday, UCLA will have the chance to do what no other team has been able to accomplish in more than 10 years: beat the Cardinal on their home courts. Stanford takes a 158-match home winning streak into this week's contests at the Taube Family Tennis Stadium. The last time the Cardinal lost at home was back on Feb. 27, 1999, when No. 4 Cal pulled off a 5-4 upset. It is recognized as the longest active home winning streak in NCAA Division I athletics.
