LOS ANGELES - The UCLA men's and women's tennis teams each received top 10 seeds for the 2010 NCAA Tennis Championships on Tuesday, as the draws for both 64-team tournaments were released live on ESPNews. UCLA's Los Angeles Tennis Center has also been chosen as a regional site for both men's and women's play beginning next week.
The seventh-seeded UCLA women (19-3) open up the tournament against Patriot League champion Army (20-9) on Friday, May 14 at 1:00 p.m. The other first-round match that day features West Coast Conference champion St. Mary's (17-6) against Arizona State (13-5) at 10:00 a.m. Friday's winners will meet in the second round on Saturday, May 15 at 3:00 p.m.
Tuesday's selection marks the 29th consecutive NCAA Tournament appearance for the Bruin women. UCLA, Cal and Stanford are the only three teams to participate in every tournament since joining the NCAA in 1982.
The ninth-seeded Bruin men (14-6) will take on Big Sky champion Sacramento State (17-11) on Saturday, May 15 at Noon. Prior to that match, Cal (12-7) faces Big West champion UC Irvine (17-11) at 9:00 a.m. The men's second-round will be on Sunday, May 16 at 1:00 p.m.
It marks 34 straight NCAA Tournament appearances for the men's program. In fact, UCLA is the only school to compete in every NCAA Tournament since the team format was adopted in 1977.
Teams that advance through regional play will earn a trip to the NCAA Round of 16, May 20-26 in Athens, Ga.
Tickets for next week's regionals can be purchased upon entrance to the Los Angeles Tennis Center. They are $7 for adults and $5 for youth/students. There are no advanced sales.
