LOS ANGELES - UCLA right-handed pitcher Tyson Brummett was selected by the Philadelphia Phillies in the seventh round of the Major League Baseball Draft on Friday, June 8. Brummett has led UCLA on the mound in 2007, posting a 3.57 ERA and 10-5 record in 17 starts.

The right-hander from Salem, Utah, has registered team highs with 133.2 innings pitched and 109 strikeouts. Brummett has hurled seven complete games, tied with six other Bruins for the second-highest single-season total in school history. The right-handed ace recorded victories in six consecutive starts midway through the season before earning All-Pac-10 Team accolades.

The 233rd overall selection in this year's draft and 19th pick in the seventh round, Brummett was drafted for the third time in his career. The San Francisco Giants selected Brummett in the 35th and 38th rounds of the 2003 and 2004 MLB Drafts, respectively.

Brummett becomes the seventh Bruin to have been selected by the Philadelphia Phillies. As a junior in 2006, Brummett led the Bruins as their No. 3 starter, posting a 4.52 ERA and a 6-7 record in 17 apperances.

A graduate of Spanish Fork High School in Spanish Fork, Utah, Brummett pitched in 23 games as a freshman at Central Arizona City College in 2004. The following season, Brummett threw 84.1 innings in 18 games, recording 72 strikeouts and a 2.67 ERA.

The 2007 draft marks the 37th consecutive year in which one or more UCLA baseball players have been selected by a Major League Baseball team. Last season, the Bruins tied a program record as 12 players were chosen by major league clubs. UCLA right-handed pitcher Brant Rustich was selected in the second round of the 2007 draft by the New York Mets on Thursday afternoon.
