Redshirt freshman Nicholas Scarvelis and incoming hurdler Trinity Wilson each qualified for the 2012 World Junior Championships in Barcelona, Spain after finishing in the top three at the USATF Junior National Championships over the weekend.

Scarvelis earned his spot on Team USA after finishing second in the shot put with a huge throw of 63-6.75. The redshirt freshman moved into second after launching a lifetime-best throw in the fifth round.

Wilson, who was competing in the women's 100m hurdles, finished third overall with a time of 13.52. She will be a freshman this fall on the track and field team.

The World Junior Championships will take place in Barcelona July 10th-15th.

Several other freshmen were also in action at the junior meet, which was held in Bloomington, IN at Indiana University.

Redshirt frosh Lane Werley missed a spot on the World Junior team by one place, finishing fourth overall in the 5000m with a time of 14:31.39. In the 10,000m, redshirt frosh Nathaniel Cushing-Murray was fifth overall in his first 10k race, running 31:43.78.

In the women's 100m hurdles, sophomore Brea Buchanan looked to have a spot on the U.S. team locked up with a third-place finish in finals (13.51), but was DQ'd after a false start was assessed after the race. The false start was protested, but her appeal was denied and she was officially DQ'd from the race.

Kylie Price was in action in both the 100m and long jump. She finished fifth in the long jump (19-9) and was 15th in the 100m (11.95).

In the steeplechase, sophomore Merissa Kado finished seventh with a time of 11:01.58. In the 5000m, sophomores Annie Mooney (17:36.23) and Bronte Golick (18:07.53) finished seventh and 11th, respectively.

Up next for the Bruins will be the U.S. Olympic Trials in Eugene, OR where current Bruin All-Americans Turquoise Thompson, Alec Faldermeyer and Mike Woepse will be in action. Several Bruin alums will also be competing at Trials.
