UCLA and Pepperdine will host the third Bruin Wave Invitational on Mar. 5-6 at El Caballero Country Club in Tarzana, CA.
UCLA enters the 15-team tournament as the consensus No. 1 ranked team in the country. Eighth-ranked Oklahoma State, No. 22 Pepperdine, No. 42 San Diego State, 44th-ranked Stanford, No. 46 New Mexico and No. 49 Oregon State are the other teams ranked in the Top 50 participating in the event.
Individually, the Bruins boast three players ranked among the nation's Top 10 in second-ranked Erynne Lee, third-ranked Lee Lopez and No. 6 Tiffany Lua. Other players ranked in the Top 25 are Oklahoma State's Kelsey Vines (No. 14) and Pepperdine's Grace Na (No. 16).
The tournament moves to El Caballero CC in 2012 after spending the first two years at Robinson Ranch. The Bruins won last year's event with a four-under par score of 860 and UCLA's Lopez won the individual title with a 54-hole total of 212 (-4).
Lopez leads the team in scoring average at 71.7, followed closely by Lee at 71.8 and Lua at 72.0. Lee was the Bruins' top finisher two weeks ago at the Regional Challenge, placing third. Lua finished fourth and Lopez tied for eighth. Sophomore Ani Gulugian, who ranks third on the team with a 73.0 scoring average, tied for 10th. Gulugian is ranked 27th in the country.
El Caballero will play to a par of 72 over 6,131 yards. Admission to the tournament is free and play begins at 8 a.m. on Mon., Mar. 5 and at 7:30 a.m. on Mar. 6.
