WOODLAND, Calif. - Senior attacker Krsto Sbutega of the UCLA men's water polo team captured MPSF Mikasa Co-Player of the Week honors on Monday after having scored a career-high five goals in the Bruins' 10-4 season-opening win at UC Irvine on Saturday, Sept. 13.
Sbutega, who shares the weekly honor with Stanford's Janson Wigo, netted the game-winning goal midway through the first quarter, breaking a 1-1 deadlock. The product of Kotor, Montenegro has scored 98 goals in 76 career matches and needs 21 more goals to crack the UCLA top-10 career goals list.
This marks the first time in his career that Sbutega has earned MPSF Player of the Week honors.
UCLA (1-0) continues its season at the annual NorCal Tournament this weekend and will open competition against host Pacific on Saturday, Sept. 20. Game time against Pacific is slated for 10:40 a.m. at Chris Kjeldsen Pool. The Bruins will face either Pepperdine or UC Davis in the afternoon.
