Hardie Takes Invitational Title in Ojai

May 1, 2011

Ojai, Calif. - UCLA sophomore Warren Hardie cruised to a straight-set victory on Sunday to capture the Invitational singles title at the Pac-10 Championships at Ojai's Libbey Park.

Hardie, who did not drop a set in four matches in Ojai, defeated Stanford's Walker Kehrer, 6-4, 6-2 to claim the title. He becomes the first UCLA player to win the Invitational singles title since Chris Surapol in 2004.

Hardie came just short of winning two titles on Sunday, as he and teammate Amit Inbar fell to second-seeded Steve Johnson and Raymond Sarmiento of USC, 6-1, 6-2 in the main draw doubles final. Hardie and Inbar were hoping for their second-straight upset after downing top-seeded Bradley Klahn and Ryan Thacher of Stanford in Saturday's semifinals.

On the women's side, Courtney Dolehide and Nina Pantic fell to Stanford's Mallory Burdette and Natalie Dillon, 8-6 in the Invitational doubles final.

In the Men's Open singles final, UCLA signee Marcos Giron defeated former Bruin Aaron Yovan, 6-0, 7-6(8) to win his fourth-straight tournament and 23rd-straight match. Bruin assistant coach Kris Kwinta and partner Boris Bakalov were scheduled to play in the doubles final later on Sunday.
