This weekend is a busy one for the Bruin track and field teams as the men's DMR and five individuals will head to Arkansas for the NCAA Indoor Championships, while most of the teams head to Northridge for the CSUN Invitational.
On Monday evening, the field for the 2010 national meet was announced. Heading to Fayetteville, AR this Friday and Saturday to compete are the men's distance medley relay team (Scott Patterson, Quentin Powell, Cory Primm and Marlon Patterson), hurdler Kevin Craddock, pole vaulters Casey DiCesare and Tori Peòa, long jumper Danielle Watson and pentathlete Ryann Krais. The DMR is ranked 3rd nationally (9:31.07) and will vie for an NCAA crown in the event. Peòa is tied for 12th in the vault (13-11.25), DiCesare is tied for 10th in the vault (17-7.75), Craddock isninth in the hurdles (7.75), Watson ranks 17th in the long jump (20-9) and Krais ranks 10th in the pentathlon (3041 pts.).
Primm had a fast enough 800m time (1:48.03) to compete at NCAAs in the 800m, but the coaching staff decided that it was in the DMR team's best interest to scratch him from the event due to overlapping of events. With fresh legs, the staff feels that the DMR will battle for the NCAA crown.
While those athletes compete in Arkansas, the outdoor season will continue for the rest of the teams as they head to Northridge for the CSUN Invitational. All event groups will compete.
