No. 1 UCLA Cruises Past No. 11 Arizona State, 14-5, in Season Opener

ANN ARBOR, Mich - The top-ranked UCLA women's water polo team defeated No. 11 Arizona State, 14-5, Saturday morning in the season opener for both teams at the 2008 Michigan Invitational.

Bruin junior Katie Rulon led UCLA with four goals, and seniors Jillian Kraus and Brittany Rowe added three goals.

UCLA led 3-1 after one quarter and maintained a 6-4 advantage at halftime. The Bruins (1-0) raced past Arizona State (0-1), outscoring the Sun Devils 4-0 in the third frame and 4-1 in the final quarter.

UCLA junior Tanya Gandy recorded two goals. Seniors Gabrielle Domanic and Kim Nelson each added one goal.

The Bruins return to action against UC San Diego at Michigan's Canham Natatorium on Saturday at 11:30 a.m. (PST).
