Recap |  Box Score

head coach John Savage
opening statement
"Well, it's far from over. It was a great game by Gavin [Brooks]. He really stepped up and we had a lot of opportunities that we couldn't cash in. But, a win is a win and Gavin showed maturity beyond his years. It's good to win that second game as it's obviously a big game, but there's a lot of tournament left and we need to be ready to keep going."

on what is left in UCLA's pitching staff
"Well, we got a quite a bit. We've only thrown two guys and [Tim] Murphy threw two pitches last night. We feel like that we're in a pretty good position. Gavin gave us exactly what we wanted, a complete game in the winner's bracket. We feel good about our pitching and our bullpen. They are ready. They should be sharp and ready to go."

on getting some extra bases and being aggressive
"We have to scrap some runs and we do know that we want to execute. We wanted to get some bunts down and we had some opportunities when we needed to and we didn't get a fly ball when we needed to when we had a runner on third less than two outs, it was frustrating tonight. We left a lot of people on base, we feel like we have executed for the most part especially the last two months. It's exciting baseball but it was frustrating tonight, but we got the win."

freshman pitcher Gavin Brooks
on tonight's performance
"There were some little jitters and I needed to trust myself more. I started to aim more and trust myself a little bit more. I've been working hard between weeks in the bullpen. It was a big game for us to win today and it was nice to save our bullpen, so it was a lot of hard work."

sophomore catcher Ryan Babineau
on hitters getting frustrated with some open opportunities
"I don't think necessarily we were getting frustrated. Sometimes things don't go your way on how you draw it up. You try to stick to the plan and do the best you can and execute as in many situations as you could."

thoughts on pitcher Gavin Brooks
"You can't say enough about Gavin Brooks performance being a freshman, throwing a complete game in a regional setting. I just can't say enough about his performance. He just did an unbelievable job. Like you said, he started off pretty slow, he was aiming the ball a little bit. Once he settled down, he was commanding all of his pitches and he looked like he knew where he going. I'm proud of him."
