The Bruin swimming and diving team will host its first home meet in the Spieker Aquatics Center on Friday as Kansas and Fresno State will face off with UCLA in a double dual in the pool beginning at 1:00 pm.
Friday's meet marks the first time UCLA has faced both Kansas and Fresno State. The Bruins are 3-1 (2-1 Pac-10) on the season with wins against Oregon State, Arizona State and UC Santa Barbara. Kansas is 2-3 on the year with wins over Nebraska-Omaha and Drury, while Fresno State is 1-3 with a win over Fresno Pacific.
The Bruins had a solid 2009 portion of their season as numerous athletes broke school or class records and achieved NCAA qualifying marks. Leading the way in the pool are Brittany Beauchan, Lauren Hall and Lindsey Marchand. Beauchan equaled the school record in the 100 breast and broke the 200 breast school record, Hall broke her own 400 IM school record, while Marchand set a frosh record in the 100 breast.
Junior Karina Silva leads the Bruin divers with NCAA Zone marks on 3M and tower. She had an impressive first quarter at UCLA, posting wins in several meets.
Friday's meet is the first of four home meets for the Bruins - 1/29 vs. Stanford, 1/30 vs. California, and 2/12 vs. USC. Admission is free to the swimming and diving meet.
