Head Men's Track and Field Coach Mike Maynard has announced the signing of three student-athletes to National Letters-of-Intent. Joining the Bruins this fall will be distance runners Daniel Herrera, Alexander Monsivaiz and Austin O'Neil.
"Coaches Gray and Braden have done a great job, and with these signings continue adding top distance talent to an already strong recruiting class," said Maynard. "Alex Monsivaiz (800m) and Austin O'Neil (mile), who have had breakout senior seasons thus far, will join and bring depth to a talented middle distance group under Coach Johnny Gray. Cerritos College transfer Daniel Herrera will work with Coach Braden, and add depth in our middle distance and distance squad. Daniel has good leg speed, and shows the promise of also having great range and impact potential in the 5000m and cross country."
Herrera will be transferring in from Cerritos College where he had top times of 1:51.71 in the 800m, 3:48.29 in the 1500m and 14:14.19 in the 5000m.
Monsivaiz attends Army & Navy HS in Carlsbad. He holds the No. 3 800m time in the U.S. with a best of 1:50.47.
O'Neil hails from Hart HS in Newhall, CA and has posted top times of 3:58.06 in the 1500m (at the 2012 Arcadia Invite) and 4:12.06 in the mile.
The trio of distance runners join an already solid recruiting class that includes Cody Crampton (high jump), Jonah Diaz (distance), Nicholas Hartle (middle distance), Blake Selig (sprints/jumps), Connor Stark (pole vault) and Justin Unno (distance).
