Ida Storm stamped her ticket to the NCAA Indoor Track & Field Championships with a monster performance on Friday at the MPSF Championships in Seattle, WA. The sophomore won the 20-lb weight throw with a mark of 69-7, breaking her own Swedish National Record, as well as the UCLA school record which was set by Cari Soong in 2004 (69-4.75). That mark moves her to sixth in the NCAA this season and automatically qualifies her for NCAAs.
Also on Friday, freshman Kylie Price had a big day as she finished sixth in the long jump with lifetime-best mark of 20-1 and was the top qualifier in the 60m to Saturday's final with another lifetime-best performance of 7.37.
Also in the 60m, frosh Brea Buchanan ran a lifetime-best of 7.74 to finish 17th overall. Buchanan also qualified to Saturday's 60m hurdles final after running a lifetime-best of 8.49 to finish fifth overall.
Junior Katja Goldring was the top finisher in the 5000m as she finished ninth in a time of 16:59.27.
In the pentathlon, sophomore Tatum Souza finished fifth overall with a season-best score of 3698 points. Souza was 11th in the 60m hurdles (9.03, 904 pts.), tied for 16th in the high jump (5-1 678 pts.), seventh in the shot put (38-00.75, 635 pts.), tied for 10th in the long jump (17-7. 660 pts.) and placed third in the 800m (2:20.19, 821 pts.).
Competition continues on Saturday in Seattle with the final day of the MPSF Championships.
