Kelly Rulon broke the UCLA single-game scoring record with her sixth goal of the game in the fourth quarter of a 17-3 victory over LMU. The previous record of five goals in a game had been held by Kelly, her younger sister Katie, Gabrielle Domanic, and Melissa Mordell. The six goals bring Kelly Rulon's career mark to 219, just 16 shy of tying the all-time Bruin record held by current UCLA assistant coach Coralie Simmons. If she continues her season average of 2.6 goals per game, she will be on pace to break the record some time during the MPSF playoffs.
The LMU Lions started the game hungry for an upset, but the Bruins quickly dispelled that notion by scoring the first nine goals of the game. Rulon had five of the eleven UCLA goals in the first half. LMU crawled back in the third quarter, holding the Bruin attack to just one goal and scoring twice to cut the lead back to nine. But UCLA would regain their momentum to score the last five goals of the game.
The Bruins tallied eleven assists on seventeen goals and stretched their winning streak to nine games. In the last four games, the team has outscored their opponents 84-9. LMU's winning streak of nine games was snapped. The Lions fall to 17-5 on the season, and the Bruins improve to 19-1. The Bruins only loss came to top-ranked Stanford back in February.
Next Saturday, the Bruins host cross-town rival USC at 1:00 PM.
