Box Score

San Diego, Calif. - Sophomore forward Victor Chavez and junior forward Chandler Hoffman each scored goals to lead the No. 6 UCLA men's soccer team to a 2-0 victory over San Diego State on Saturday afternoon.

The Bruins improved to 15-4-1 on the year with the win and went undefeated in Pac-12 play at 10-0-0. UCLA only allowed two goals all season in conference play and went 10-0 in the conference for the first time since 2003. San Diego State finished the regular season at 10-6-3 and finished at 4-5-1 in the Pac-12.

The Aztecs looked to be the more attacking team in the first half, recording six shots and three on goal. But the Bruin defense was stout and goalie Brian Rowe made three saves in the half to keep San Diego State out of the back of the net. The game looked destined to go into halftime tied 0-0, but Victor Chavez gave UCLA a 1-0 lead when he scored his third goal of the season with just five seconds left in the half. Victor Munoz started the play by taking a free kick and crossing the ball into the box, where Chavez was there to tap it into the left side of the net to give the Bruins the halftime lead.

In the second half, the Bruins once again did a great job of limiting the Aztecs' scoring chances and kept San Diego State's offense at bay. Then in the 82nd minute, Chandler Hoffman put the Bruins ahead for good after scoring his 15th goal of the season. Hoffman was at the front of the net and tapped the ball into the goal after receiving a cross from Shawn Singh. Chandler's 15 goals are also the most by a Bruin player since McKinley Tennyson Jr. had 15 back in 2000. The Bruins ran the remaining time off the clock and defeated San Diego State by the score of 2-0.

Overall, the Aztecs outshot UCLA 12-8 in the match and Brian Rowe made five saves to earn his ninth shutout of the season.

The Bruins will now await NCAA selection on Monday, Nov. 14. As the Pac-12 champion, UCLA is guaranteed an automatic berth into the NCAA Tournament. The NCAA selection show will air on NCAA.com at 1:30 pm PT.
