SAN ANTONIO, Texas - Head coach Michael Sealy has been honored as the National Coach of the Year, as announced by the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) on Thursday at the Jostens Coaches Honor Luncheon. It is the first career Coach of the Year award for Sealy and the third in UCLA history.

Sealy is in his second year at UCLA and has led the Bruins to a 28-6 record this season and the program's 12th National Semifinal appearance. He has a career record of 50-15 in two years in Westwood.

Andy Banachowski was named the AVCA National Coach of the Year in 1989 and 2006, which marked the last time the Bruins reached a National Semifinal.

Also honored at the Jostens Coaches Honor Luncheon were UCLA men's volleyball head coach Al Scates, who will enter his 50th and final season at the helm of the Bruin program in 2012, and former three-time AVCA All-American Liz Masakayan, who is third all-time in UCLA women's volleyball history in kills with 2,044. She is also the school leader in aces with 259. Masakayan was a member of the 1984 National Championship squad and was a coach on the `91 title team.

The ninth-seeded Bruins face #12-seed Florida State on Thursday in the National Semifinals. First serve is scheduled for 4 p.m. PT and the match will be televised live on ESPN2 and online at ESPN3.com.
