This week's games against Arizona State (Thursday at 8 pm) and Arizona (Saturday at 1 pm) are the final men's basketball game in the current Pauley Pavilion. On Saturday, UCLA is hosting "Blue Out, Sell Out" for the final game. To read about all of the activities for that day, click here.
Exterior construction on Pauley is well underway and on April 1, Pauley's doors will be closed and the interior renovation on perhaps the most well-known college basketball facility will begin.
When the Bruins return to the Pauley Pavilion hardwood to begin the 2012-13 season, the facility will have a new look featuring arena-level seating closer to the floor, all new seats, new state-of-the art video board, new LED ribbon board, new locker rooms and film rooms for the teams and a new lobby on the north side of the building in which UCLA will be able to display its basketball heritage.
Pauley Pavilion has been the home of UCLA athletic teams for 46 years. During that time, the basketball, volleyball and gymnastics teams have won 39 NCAA team titles plus several other national championships.
But Pauley is more than just an athletic facility, it is a UCLA icon that has hosted more than its share of unique events, including the annual Nickelodeon Kids' Choice Awards and concerts by the Jerry Garcia Band, the Los Angeles Philharmonic, Lenny Kravitz, Joni Mitchell, Frank Zappa, Bob Dylan, Van Morrison, and Phish.
Pauley, the site of annual graduation ceremonies, has also been the venue for such momentous occasions as the 1984 Olympics, President Bill Clinton's appearance at UCLA's 75th anniversary convocation in 1994, the Dalai Lama's 1997 visit and the 1988 presidential debate between George H.W. Bush and Michael Dukakis, now a visiting professor in the School of Public Affairs.
ESPN has an updated feature on Pauley Pavilion that you can read by clicking here.
Last year to celebrate the official groundbreaking of the renovation project, the UCLA Spotlight featured a slide show of Pauley Pavilion through the years. You can view the slide show by clicking here.
