Los Angeles - Catcher Ryan Babineau turned in a career performance, hitting 4-for-4 with two home runs, three runs scored and three RBI to lead the UCLA baseball team past Washington, 11-2, Friday evening at Jackie Robinson Stadium. The Bruins won their seventh-consecutive game and improved to 5-0 in Pac-10 play, the team's best conference start since 1977.

Sophomore left-hander Tim Murphy (2-1) struck out seven Huskies through 6.0 innings, limiting Washington to two runs off seven hits. Murphy allowed just one run in each of the second and third innings before holding the Huskies scoreless in his final three innings. Freshman Garett Claypool struck out two batters in 1.2 innings of relief, allowing UCLA to win its second Pac-10 series of the season.

UCLA (15-14, 5-0 Pac-10) got on the board in the first inning after shortstop Jermaine Curtis and second baseman Alden Carrithers singled to right field. Designated hitter Brandon Crawford's groundout brought home Curtis from third, giving the Bruins a 1-0 lead.

Washington (15-13, 4-4 Pac-10) answered with one run in the top of the second. First baseman Curt Rindal tripled to right-center and scored on a base-hit to left by designated hitter Trevor Petersen. Murphy induced a ground ball double play from left fielder Ty Rasmussen to escape the one-out jam.

UCLA recaptured the lead on a two-run home run in the second by catcher Ryan Babineau. The Huskies answered with one run in the third inning, cutting the Bruins' lead to 3-2. Shortstop Brian Pearl singled to center and took second base on a sacrifice bunt. Center fielder Michael Burgher brought home Pearl with a base hit up the middle.

The Bruins added one run in the third, Carrithers scored from third on a groundout by first baseman Cody Decker. UCLA used three runs in the fourth to assume a 7-2 advantage. With runners at second and third, Curtis singled to center with two outs before advancing to second base when Carrithers was hit by a pitch. Crawford plated Curtis with a base-hit to right field.

Babineau belted his second home run of the evening, his third of the season, in the bottom of the sixth to give UCLA an 8-2 cushion. The Bruins added three more runs on three walks, one hit by pitch and a pass ball on strike three, allowing third baseman Eddie Murray to reach first base.

UCLA and Washington conclude their three-game series Saturday at 1 p.m.

Game Notes: Brendan Lafferty retired the one batter he faced in the seventh inning...UCLA has scored at least two runs in either the first or second innings of each of its last four games...Brandon Crawford collected his team-leading 14th multi-hit game of the year; Alden Carrithers tallied his 13th multi-hit effort...the Bruins have won each of their last five home Pac-10 series.
