Redshirt junior forward Atonye Nyingifa (Torrance, Calif./Redondo Union HS) of the UCLA women's basketball team was selected as the UCLA/Muscle Milk Student-Athlete of the Week for Jan. 22-28.
Nyingifa led UCLA to a pair of home wins over the Arizona schools as the 19th-ranked Bruins improved to 15-4 overall and 6-2 in the Pac-12. The Bruins opened up with a 73-57 win over Arizona on Friday (Jan. 25) and then posted a 54-50 win over Arizona State on Sunday (Jan. 27). In the win over the Wildcats, Nyingifa had season-highs of 20 points and 12 rebounds while adding three steals, two assists and two blocks. In a much slower-paced game, Nyingifa had six points and three rebounds in the win over Arizona State. The six points against ASU snapped a season-best eight consecutive games she had scored in double figures. For the week, Nyingifa averaged 13.0 points, 7.5 rebounds, 1.5 steals, 1.0 blocks and 1.0 assists per game. She also shot a combined 61.9 percent from the floor (13-for-21).
This is Nyingifa's first UCLA/Muscle Milk Student-Athlete of the Week honor of the season and of her career.
