March 30, 2011

The men's and women's track and field squads will host Tennessee this Saturday in a scored dual meet at Drake Stadium. The Bruin men were ranked 24th in the pre-season poll, while the Lady Vols were ranked 15th.

This weekend's meet is the first of a three-meet home stand for the Bruins. UCLA will host the annual Rafer Johnson/Jackie Joyner Kersee Invitational April 7-9 and then the men will host Oregon in a scored dual on April 17.

The women's team has never faced Tennessee in a dual. The men's squad last faced Tennessee in 1983, when the Bruins won 95-59. UCLA holds a 10-1 advantage against the Vols. Three places score in a dual meet with five points for 1st, three points for 2nd and one point for third. Relays are scored 5-0. The magic number to win in a dual is 82, although ties have been known to occur.
