The top-ranked UCLA women's golf team added to its arsenal Wednesday when the program announced the signing of one of the best junior players in the country.
Tiffany Lua, a senior at Los Altos High School in Rowland Heights, Calif., has signed a National Letter of Intent to attend UCLA next Fall.
Lua, ranked fifth nationally by the AJGA, advanced to the semifinals of the U.S. Women's Amateur Publinks Championship in June and tied for 13th individually at the U.S. Women's Amateur Championship in August.
"We are very excited to add Tiffany Lua to our talented 2009-10 roster," said Head Coach Carrie Forsyth. "She is one of the best players in her class and she has a proven junior record. She will have an immediate impact on our travel roster."
A three-time AJGA All-American, Lua tied for second at the Rolex Tournament of Champions in June and was the runner-up at the Thunderbird International Junior in May. In March, she picked up a seventh place finish at the AJGA Championship.
"She brings a very well-rounded golf game and a calm, confident and competitive demeanor to the course," Forsyth continued. "I expect her to develop into one of the top collegiate players in the nation during her time at UCLA."
Lua has also played in the last two U.S. Women's Opens, making the cut this year at Interlachen CC in Minnesota and tying for 71st place. She played in the 2007 Open at Pine Needles, NC, but missed the 36-hole cut.
