Bruins in Major League Soccer - Week Eight

Each week, uclabruins.com will update and highlight select UCLA players' progress during the current MLS season. Games highlighted are from Apr. 23-29. The Bruins lead all universities with 23 alumni in MLS.

Chad Barrett (Los Angeles Galaxy; Years played at UCLA: 2003-04)
Chad Barrett came on as a substitute and played 16 minutes in the Galaxy's 1-1 draw with FC Dallas on Saturday. He came on in the 74th minute for Mike Magee and helped set up the game-tying goal for the Galaxy in the 92nd minute. Barrett gathered a loose ball in the box in the waning moments and passed it back to teammate Pat Noonan, who promptly scored far post, thus earning Barrett his first assist of the year.
Galaxy record: 3-3-1, 10 points, 7th place in Western Conference

Barrett's 2012 MLS season stats: 7GP/2GS, 228 minutes, 1 assist, 6 shots

Tony Beltran (Real Salt Lake; Years played at UCLA: 2006-07)
Beltran started at right back and played 90 minutes for Real Salt Lake in their 1-1 draw with FC Dallas on Wednesday night. He did not record a statistic in the match, but helped the Salt Lake defense hold Dallas to just three shots on goal and 11 in the match. Beltran then came back on Saturday and played 87 minutes in Salt Lake's 3-2 home win over Toronto FC. He recorded one shot in the match. Beltran has started all 10 of Real Salt Lake's games this season and has played a large role in helping the team to a second place standing in the Western Conference.
Real Salt Lake record: 6-3-1, 19 points, 2nd place in Western Conference

Beltran's 2012 MLS season stats: 10GP/10GS, 884 minutes, 2 assists, 4 shots, 2 SOG

David Estrada (Seattle Sounders FC; Years played at UCLA: 2006-09)
David Estrada started and played all 90 minutes at forward in Seattle's 2-1 win over the Chicago Fire on Saturday. Estrada had a big hand in the Sounders' first goal, as he took the ball on the left side of the penalty box and put a low shot on goal, which deflected off of a Chicago defender for an own goal to make it 1-0 Seattle. He has four goals in six MLS games for the Sounders this year and is tied for first on the team with eight shots on goal.
Sounders record: 4-1-1, 13 points, 4th place in Western Conference

Estrada's 2012 MLS season stats: 6GP/6GS, 513 minutes, 4 goals, 16 shots, 8 SOG

Benny Feilhaber (New England Revolution; Years played at UCLA: 2003-04)
Benny Feilhaber came off the bench as a substitute in New England's 1-0 loss to New York on Saturday. Feilhaber came on at halftime for fellow UCLA alum Kelyn Rowe and made his presence felt in the second half with two shots on goal. Feilhaber almost leveled the match in the 77th minute when he took a header in the box and put it on net. But unfortunately for Feilhaber New York keeper Ryan Meara was right there and made the save. Feilhaber again tested Meara when he took the ball towards the top of the box in the 88th minute and unleased a rocket on net. But again Meara was in position and made a great save to preserve New York's victory.
Revolution record: 2-5, 6 points, 9th place in Eastern Conference

Feilhaber's 2012 MLS season stats: 4GP/2GS, 231 minutes, 6 shots, 3 SOG

Jordan Harvey (Vancouver Whitecaps FC; Years played at UCLA: 2002-05)
Harvey started and played all 90 minutes in defense as Vancouver recorded its second straight shutout by beating the Columbus Crew 1-0. Harvey and the rest of the Whitecaps defense allowed just two shots on goal and blocked nine shots to earn their sixth shutout in eight games this season. Harvey has played in all six of those shutouts and started and played all 90 minutes in three of them.
Whitecaps record: 4-2-2, 14 points, 3rd place in Western Conference
This week's Whitecaps schedule: May 5 - vs. San Jose Earthquakes
Harvey's 2012 MLS season stats: 8GP/5GS, 528 minutes, 1 assist, 2 shots

Kamani Hill (Colorado Rapids; Years played at UCLA: 2004-05)
Kamani Hill only played 20 minutes for the Rapids, but had a huge impact in their 4-0 win over Chivas USA on Saturday. Hill came on as a substitute in the 70th minute and proceeded to score two goals in his 20 minutes of play. With the Rapids up 1-0 already, Hill got them the all-important insurance goal as he took a cross from Omar Cummings in the box and put one past the Chivas USA keeper for his second goal of the year. Hill wasn't done scoring though, as he took a rebound off a cross in the 93rd minute and blasted another shot into an open net to seal Colorado's 4-0 victory. Hill now has three goals in just five games for the Rapids this year and is tied with Cummings for the team lead in goals.
Rapids record: 4-4, 12 points, 5th place in Western Conference

Hill's 2012 MLS season stats: 5GP/1GS, 141 minutes, 3 goals, 6 shots, 4 SOG

Amobi Okugo (Philadelphia Union; Years played at UCLA: 2009)
Okugo made his first start of the year for Philadelphia and played all 90 minutes at central midfielder in the Union's 2-1 loss to San Jose on Saturday. Despite not recording an offensive statistic in the match, Okugo made his presence felt on the defensive side of the ball and was able to help create a couple of chances for the Union on offense.
Union record: 2-4-1, 7 points, 7th place in Eastern Conference
This week's Union schedule: May 5 - at Seattle Sounders FC
Okugo's 2012 MLS season stats: 3GP/1GS, 128 minutes

Matt Reis (New England Revolution; Years played at UCLA: 1994-97)
Matt Reis recorded five saves and gave up one goal in the Revolution's 1-0 loss to the New York Red Bulls on Saturday. Reis allowed a goal in the 7th minute to Thierry Henry, but made some great stops after that to keep the Revolution in the game and run his total save count to 22 on the year. He has started and played every minute so far in all seven of New England's matches.
Revolution record: 2-5, 6 points, 9th place in Eastern Conference
This week's Revolution schedule: May 2 - vs. Colorado Rapids; May 5 - at Real Salt Lake
Reis's 2012 MLS season stats: 7GP/7GS, 630 minutes, 22 saves, 9 GA, 1.29 GAA

Nick Rimando (Real Salt Lake; Years played at UCLA: 1997-99)
Nick Rimando made five total saves this past week as Real Salt Lake tied with FC Dallas 1-1 and defeated Toronto FC 3-2. Against Dallas on Wednesday night, Rimando made two saves on 11 shots to earn a point on the road for Real Salt Lake. Then on Saturday against Toronto, Rimando made three more saves, including a big diving stop in the 77th minute to deny the equalizer for Toronto as he picked up his sixth win of the year. Rimando is tied for first in all of MLS with 30 saves on the year and has just a 1.10 GAA thus far.
Real Salt Lake record: 6-3-1, 19 points, 2nd place in Western Conference
This week's Real Salt Lake schedule: May 5 - vs. New England Revolution
Rimando's 2012 MLS season stats: 10GP/10GS, 900 minutes, 30 saves, 11 GA, 1.10 GAA

Kelyn Rowe (New England Revolution; Years played at UCLA: 2010-11)
Rowe started and played 45 minutes at midfielder in New England's 1-0 loss to the New York Red Bulls on Saturday. Rowe was subbed off at halftime for fellow UCLA alum Benny Feilhaber and did not record an offensive statistic in the match. Rowe has started all seven of the Revolution's games so far and has one goal on the year.
Revolution record: 2-5, 6 points, 9th place in Eastern Conference
This week's Revolution schedule: May 2 - vs. Colorado Rapids; May 5 - at Real Salt Lake
Rowe's 2012 MLS season stats: 7GP/7GS, 540 minutes, 1 goal, 13 shots, 9 SOG

Marvell Wynne (Colorado Rapids; Years played at UCLA: 2004-05)
Wynne once again started and played all 90 minutes at center back in Colorado's 4-0 home win over Chivas USA. Wynne played a pivotal role in a Rapids' defense that held Chivas USA to just four shots on goal as Colorado earned its third shutout of the season. So far Wynne has started and played every single minute in all eight of Colorado's matches this season.
Rapids record: 4-4, 12 points, 5th place in Western Conference
