The Bruins enter Friday's contest with an 11-match home winning streak, including victories in their last seven conference matches in Pauley.
UC Irvine (22-4, 15-4) lost 3-2 at No.1 Pepperdine on Mar. 31. In that match, Pepperdine neutralized UCI's hitting attack by out-blocking the Anteaters, 18.0-12.0. The Anteaters hit just .272, while the Waves hit .331. UCI also committed 25 service errors to Pep's 14.
Although the loss snapped UCI's 10-match winning streak, the school has guaranteed itself a spot in the MPSF playoffs for the third time in five years.
The Anteaters returned all six starters from last year's 27-5 team that advanced to the NCAA Championship for the first time in school history. Head Coach John Speraw (UCLA '95) earned AVCA Coach of the Year honors and returning outside hitter Jayson Jablonsky earned 2006 AVCA Player of the Year laurels. Libero Brent Asuka was voted the AVCA Newcomer of the Year last season.
The UC Irvine match will be High School/Club Team Night and Sports Camper Reunion Night. Please call 310-206-3444 for more information or to register a team. In addition, the first 500 fans will receive a UCLA Volleyball bike bottle.
