BRUINS OPEN SEASON AGAINST MCNEESE STATE
The 22nd-ranked Bruins open up the 2011-12 regular season on Friday, hosting McNeese State in the first round of the Preseason WNIT at the John Wooden Center at 2 p.m. With the Veterans Day Holiday, parking on campus is free. Tickets are $7 for adults, $5 for youths and free for UCLA students.
UCLA outscored Vanguard 81-52 on Monday night in its final exhibition tuneup before starting the regular season. Junior forward Atonye Nyingifa led all scorers with 22 points and all rebounders with 16. Freshmen Kacy Swain and Moriah Faulk added 17 and 14 points, respectively.
McNeese State won the Southland Conference title last season, posting a 26-7 record, and advanced to the NCAA Tournament where it was eliminated in the first round by eventual national champion Texas A&M. The Cowgirls return 12 letterwinners and three starters.
If the Bruins win on Friday, they would play again on Sunday at 2 p.m. at the John Wooden Center against the winner of the East Tennessee State/Tennessee Tech game, which is also being played on Friday in Tennessee. If the Bruins lose, they would not play again until next weekend in the Preseason WNIT consolation round at a site, date and time to be determined.
