Freshman pitcher Trevor Bauer (Valencia, CA/Hart HS) of the UCLA baseball team was selected as the UCLA/Muscle Milk Student-Athlete of the Week for Apr. 13-20.
Bauer threw a one-hit complete game shutout, leading UCLA past Washington 13-0 on Saturday afternoon. The one-hitter was UCLA's first since April 13, 1998. Bauer recorded a career-high nine strikeouts in his first complete game as a collegiate pitcher and faced just one batter above the minimum. He did not allow any Washington baserunners past first base and had a no-hitter into the sixth inning (broken by the leadoff hitter with a single to left field). The right-hander retired the first 13 batters faced in order before issuing a one-out walk in the top of the fifth inning. Bauer has registered a perfect 4-0 mark in Pac-10 play, compiling 28 strikeouts and just three walks in conference play. Overall, Bauer has gone 6-3 with a team-low 2.64 ERA and 58 strikeouts in a team-high 61.1 innings.
This is Bauer's first UCLA/Muscle Milk Student-Athlete of the Week honor of the season and of his career.
